I have had pretty good success as a rookie webmaster on other websites I have created, but this one has not been assigned pagerank in more than 12 months. All others have been given pagerank within 6 months. Can you provide any pointers?

Everything you need to know is in Google – see link below and work from there.

I’ve been trying to learn SEO for about a month now and all I really get is a bunch of information that I can’t actually apply. I have an ecommerce store that I would like to market and get some good search engine rankings.

Is there any good SEO blueprints out there, that will teach how to rank step by step?

I was in your shoes a few years ago and I feel your pain. You can learn all the SEO in the world but if you don’t have a solid step by step game plan, chances are you won’t get any results.

When it comes down to it, SEO is all about

1. Finding the right keywords to rank for

2. Optimizing your website to rank in Google for those keywords

3. Then building backlinks with those keywords

Of course there is a system to each of those steps but it would take all day for me to explain. You can visit my SEO blog if you get more info. It’s in the resources section right below.

Will I be ‘starting all over’, so to speak, if I do this? I already have a custom domain, the blog is just hosted on blogger.

Ron

I am building a website for a realtor. It seems that if the domain contains the search words (e.g "homes" and "Denver" and "realtor" to denverrealtor.com or denverhomes.com) it would rank higher in search engines than those with those words only as metatags.

Is this true? What is the best way to get high on the list?

That is not necessarily true. Although it is smart to have your keywords in your domain name, its not proven either way if it helps you or not.

The best way to get good SEO is to maximize your top 5 keywords in:

Title
Alt Images
Keywords
Meta Tags

One of the biggest things Google looks at (besides PR) is Keywords in Title. Focus on generic broad keywords.

"homes" or "denver" will not get your listed. There are way to many websites that have good PR that will blow your website out of the water. Instead use

"Denver Relocation"
"Homes in the Denver area"
"Moving to Denver"
"Purchasing a home in Denver"

etc….
