Never use BITLY. They have a home-cooked algorithm that flags ‘affiliate’ links with big RED Warnings. It seems that they are wrong more times than they are right. I urge you to re-check all your BITLY redirects every few months to make sure they’re not flagged. TINYURL seems to keep clear of the link-policing role that BITLY has taken on.

The actual (destination) address gets the PageRank. The shortened URL is treated as if it never existed (except to be followed to determine where the link is supposed to really go.) In other words, any TinyURL link is treated as if the larger link to the original address is really embedded in the page instead.
