Is it possible to submit my articles in online directories for improving my website pagerank?

in google my website page rank is zero. For improving my webpage rank,
shall i write one article about my website or some topic related to my site and add my text anchor links to link my website and submit it into any online directories. Is it one of the method for improve my webpage rank or not? anybody clear my doubt.
