Looking to advertise with an online supplier in Scotland for my business. Is there a way(Not pagerank) to find out if they are best for my business compared to another online advertiser who offer the same service?IE how many hits they get etc.
If you want to advertise with them, you can request for a copy of their media kit which would contain their traffic stats (hopefully).
Otherwise, ask them straight out that you are an interested advertiser and would like to know their pageviews and uniques per month. We accept advertising and this is one of the first questions asked by the more savvy advertisers
Or use services such as
Alexa http://www.alexa.com
Compete http://www.compete.com
Quantcast http://www.quantcast.com
Ranking http://www.ranking.com
Note that these services will not give the exact numbers but merely an estimation of the traffic numbers. Unless the site is
"quantified" with Quantcast and that means the site actually placed the Quantcast code on their site, which implies higher accuracy

Also in addition to what Imisidro said, you should also asked them, what the target group of their traffic is, because if you sell say t-shirts to end-users for example, you will want to advertise on other websites where people who buy t-shirts are and not where only people who sell t-shirts are, to get the maximum returns on your advertisements.
