I don’t really stress out on Alexa for their ranking and Pagerank, I could care less. However, there was a time when Alexa was more accurate than it is now. Back in the day, the Alexa toolbar came with Mozilla but now it doesn’t. Most people won’t install the IE toolbar because it slows down the entire program. I just started getting into Alexa but not for rankings, it’s more of helping the internet archive for future references, but that’s just me.

Using Page Rank …
Using Page Rank tools, (apart from Googles own toolbar), is a no-no; Google may ban you for using such tools.. It uses Google Bandwidth without real user search. So Google don’t like it
Automated Queries with Google will hget you banned.

I love learning how to blog, build my site better. I dont think i’ll change much in 3 yrs when i have 10,000 going to my sites to have to KEEP UP WITH THE JONES’ and have all those silly things-alexa…. I actually belong to Lifelock which helps protect my identity. I also make sure I sign up with reputable companies that I trust and that the page is secure before I submit any personal information. Of course there is always a risk and you cannot protect yourself 100% but I can say that in my 11 years, I haven’t had any problems. *knock on wood*

if one is looking up his own traffic via an anayltics tool.
the other thingies like alexa and pagerank and so on are not that accurate as you already said due to various reasons…and should be taken (if wanted) to take a look at other sites…to get an idea, just an idea (not an accurate measurement) how well they are doing.
