I have to update a existing web site with a new developed website. Can any body tell me what will be the effects on the Google and other search engine rankings for my website. As of now it is not so good.

Actually, updating a website works in your favour in Google. It shows them that you’re working to make your site better.
When you do update, be sure your site contains ALOT of text. If your site is all images, or the only text on your site is in an image there’s nothing for Google to read to gather keywords about you. Also, make sure that every single page has a unique page title that accurately describes that page. Make all links for your main navigation text. Make your page URLs meaningful; as in:
www.example.com/this-describes-this-page.html
And most importantly, try to network with other web sites that have similar topics and see if you can’t get reciprocal links. The more incoming links you have from reputable sites the better. Avoid link farms, they work against your ranking.
Assuming it looks the same to the robots, no change at all. Otherwise, to give you a meaningful answer, someone would have to do an SEO evaluation on the old site and the new one. And you don’t get that for anything resembling "free".

most of the time you have to pay google to get your site to be in the top ranking when someone does a search, but if you put the right key words with in the site to being with then the google robots will read it faster and put it in the search results.
